Brabham was founded by Australian racing driver Jack Brabham and designer Ron Tauranac in 1962. In 1966, Jack Brabham became the only driver in F1 history to win the World Championship in a car bearing his own name. The team later became famous for the controversial BT46B "fan car" and Nelson Piquet's championships in the early 1980s.

The BT46B, designed by Gordon Murray, used a large fan at the rear to extract air from under the car, creating enormous ground effect downforce. Niki Lauda won the only race it entered (Swedish Grand Prix 1978). It was immediately banned by the FIA. The most controversial car in F1 history.
Defunct since 1992. The Brabham name was revived for a brief return attempt in 2009–2010 but did not race in F1.
